Horsemanship 101- Required for all students

  • This class is open to students with little to no horse experience. 
  • This is the foundation class of our horsemanship program.  This class is typically 4 sessions and will be paced for the individual student.  An advanced placement (AP) option is available for students wishing to test out. 

Ground Control 101

  • This class is for beginning students who have completed Horsemanship 101 or AP testing.
  • This is a class for students who want to ride or need to improve their riding through ground control.  The partnership between rider and horse is established through ground exercises that create respect and trust, leading to better experiences under-saddle. This class is typically 4 sessions.

Ground Control 201

  • This is a class for intermediate students having completed Ground Control 101 or AP testing.
  • The in-hand partnership is matured with an eye toward much greater experiences under-saddle as exercises build trust and respect between horse and rider.  This class is typically 8 sessions.

In-Hand 101 for the Non-Rider

  • A special class for students not ready to ride but still desiring to work with horses. 
  • The partnership between student and horse is advanced by working on the ground.  This class is typically 4 sessions.

In-Hand 201 for the Non-Rider

  • Advanced student
  • An advanced class for students wishing greater control of their horse on the ground while still preferring to stay in-hand rather than under-saddle.  Completion of In-Hand 101 required or AP testing.  This class is typically 6 session
  

Riding With Confidence 101

  • A class for riders having completed Ground Control 201 or In-Hand 201. 
  • The lessons from the previous classes will now be applied to rider and horse under-saddle.  The partners will progress in a safe confident way through a series of lessons leading to confidence in-saddle at the walk and trot.  The primary goal being unwavering confidence in the riders ability to control the horse throughout the exercises without fear.  All work at this level is done in an enclosed arena and round pen. This class is typically 8 or more sessions.

Riding With Confidence 201

  • This class is for students having completed Horsemanship 101, Ground Control 201 and Riding with Confidence 101 who wish to continue in-saddle at the walk, trot and canter or lope. 
  • Riding will begin with a review of Riding with Confidence 101 fundamentals and proceed for approved riders to walk-trot both in and outside the arena.  After arena and trail skills are approved the rider will begin work in the arena on the canter or lope if they are comfortable or, if necessary, current skills will be expanded at the walk and trot.  This class is typically 8 or more sessions.

Regaining Confidence 701

  • Regaining Confidence 701 is a suite of classes for seasoned citizens or returning riders.  If you have been away from the horse world for a while, are riding for the first time later in life or need to regain your confidence; this is the place for you. 

Horsemanship 701- Required for all Regaining Confidence 701 students

  • This class is open to students with little to no horse experience or returning riders. 
  • This is the foundation class of our horsemanship program.  This class is typically 4 sessions and will be paced for the individual student. 

Confident Ground Control 701

  • This class is for students of Regaining Confidence 701 who wish to continue in-hand.  Requires completion of Horsemanship 701. 
  • A class for students desiring to ride or needing to improve their riding through ground control.  The partnership between rider and horse is increased through ground exercises that create respect and trust leading to better experiences under-saddle.  This class is typically 6 sessions

Riding With Confidence 701

  • This class is for students having completed, Horsemanship 701 and Confident Ground Control 701 who wish to continue in-saddle. 
  • The lessons from the previous two classes will now be applied to rider and horse under-saddle.  The partners will progress in a safe confident way through a series of lessons leading to confidence in-saddle at the walk and trot.  The primary goal being unwavering confidence in the riders ability to control the horse throughout the exercises without fear.  All work at this level is done in an enclosed arena and round pen.  This class is typically 10 or more sessions.

Riders with Special Needs:

  • We look forward to the opportunity to work with riders of varying abilities, some might say disabilities.  Adaptive sessions provide individuals with varying abilities a healthy channel to share the mutual joy of horses. 
  • It is understood that all riders with IDD’s or special needs have, if necessary, sought and received necessary doctor’s release to participate in riding activities.  These records must be on-file prior to the first session.

Sessions:

  • All sessions are private. 
  • Any session can be adapted for riders with special needs
  • Any session can be adapted for seasoned citizens.
  • Small groups can be arranged for in-hand sessions only.  

Advancement:

  • Progress is determined by
    • Ability
    • Strength
    • Determination
    • Consistency
    • With SAFETY our number one consideration a rider will advance when
      • Skills are mastered
      • Rider can ride in a safe manner
      • We reserve the right to terminate any rider/horse from our program if we deem them unsafe and a danger to themselves or others.

Required Gear & Dress:

  • Students under 18-years old are required to:
    • Provide ASTM F-1163-01 AND 04a/SEI Certified Helmet
    • Wear their helmet when working horses in-hand
    • Wear their helmet when riding
    • Dress required for all students in all sessions: Long pants Modest tops Boots with heels (no tennis shoes or sandals)
  • What to bring to every session:
    • Helmet
    • Sunscreen
    • Water
    • Snack
  • What NOT to bring to any session: 
    • Dogs: If you bring them they will be put on a tether, with a water bowl, in the shade, away from the horses
    • Cell Phones: please leave your phone in the car
    • Cigars/Cigarettes, illegal drugs, non-prescription drugs, or any product that alters your ability to balance and focus, thus endangering your person.  (Drug tests will be performed on any person seeking medical attention due to an accident or incident on NextStepETC or partner properties or facilities.  It is your responsibility to verify with your doctor that drugs he/she prescribes will not interfere with your riding lessons.)
  • Be prepared prior to first session.   
    • Ask questions PRIOR to first session.

Payments:

  • All pricing  is based on a pre-paid monthly fee. 
  • Fee payment is due on the 1st day of each month or on the day lessons start, which is sooner.
  • Session fees are not refundable. 

Schedule:

  • Riders are encouraged to ride a minimum of twice a week for the best results. 
  • If riding only once a week, rider should expect to need more sessions to complete a level. 
  • Since sessions are private, scheduling is very flexible. 
  • Typical numbers of sessions for each level are listed but not guaranteed. 

RE-Schedule:

  • Schedule changes must be made 12 hours prior to session time. 
  • Sessions missed or not rescheduled with 12 hours notice are forfeit  and cannot be rescheduled without additional fees.
  • There is no a-la-carte option.
